First RacquetTM Academy
First RacquetTM is a youth development program created by the Quad City Tennis Club (QCTC) to introduce the games of tennis and pickleball and their inherent values to underserved youth in the Quad Cities. Through after-school and in-school programs, First RacquetTM aims to help shape the lives of young people from all walks of life by reinforcing the values of good sportsmanship, dedication and perseverance through the sports of tennis and pickleball.
First RacquetTM participants will receive:
- Free court time
- Free professional lessons
- Free tennis shoes and t-shirts
- Loaner tennis racquets and pickleball paddles
First RacquetTM participants will learn:
- The basics of tennis and pickleball from licensed instructors
- The rules of each sport
- Sportsmanship and fair play
- Other lifelong skills

What ages of children does First RacquetTM instruct?
Who are the instructors?
QCTC licensed professionals and volunteer members
What is the cost to participate in First RacquetTM ?
There is NO cost to children or families; program is 100% FREE
Will classes be canceled because of weather?
Although the QCTC is an indoor facility, classes may be canceled if driving conditions are unsafe
How long are classes?
1.5 hours per week for 8 weeks
What if I don’t have a racquet or tennis shoes?
Loaner tennis racquets and pickleball paddles are supplied by the QCTC, and based on need, EACH child will receive a pair of shoes and T-shirt at no additional cost.

Can a child stay involved with the program year after year?
Yes. Tennis and pickleball skills are learned over a lifetime. Juniors also will learn interpersonal, self management, goal setting and other life skills as they advance through the First RacquetTM certification levels of Red, Orange, Blue and Black Grip.
