Bookable Times are from 10:00 AM - 7:30 PM.  Court reservations must be made 3 hours prior to play.

Before You Book

  • Proper footwear is required. Smooth-soled tennis shoes only. No trail runners, cross-trainers, turf cleats, or running shoes with pronounced tread. The surface requires it — and enforcement protects the court for every player.
  • Non-members require a one-day membership. $20 Day Pass. Members may bring guests; the guest fee applies to each non-member in the party not enrolled in a clinic.
  • Season runs June 1 through August 16, 2026. Grass courts open and close on those dates, weather and surface conditions permitting. No exceptions at season’s end.
  • Advance booking required. All reservations through CourtReserve. Same-day court availability is not guaranteed — book at least three hours ahead.
  • Weather holds are possible. Courts may close after significant rain or when the surface is deemed unplayable by staff. Notification goes out via CourtReserve. An indoor alternative is available — see weather policy below.

Grass Court Calendar

Inclement Weather

When It Rains

Grass courts are a living surface. They require recovery time after significant rainfall — not merely the hour it takes for puddles to clear, but the period needed for the turf to return to safe, consistent playing conditions. Playing on a saturated surface damages the grass and creates injury risk.

Weather Policy

Court Closures & Indoor Alternatives

Court reservations: If grass courts are closed due to weather or surface conditions, QCTC staff will notify affected members via CourtReserve. Indoor hard courts are available as an alternative — contact the front desk to arrange.

Lawn Tennis clinics: In the event of inclement weather on any clinic date, all three Lawn Tennis programs transfer indoors at the same scheduled time. The clinic fee is reduced by half for any session held indoors.

Decision timing: Weather calls are made by staff no later than one hour before a session. CourtReserve notifications are sent at that time.

QCTC staff hold sole authority over court closure decisions. Player-initiated closures do not qualify for automatic refund — contact the front desk directly if conditions appear borderline.

Not quite ready to book solo?

Start with a Clinic

Three Lawn Tennis clinics run weekly through mid-August — designed around the serve-and-volley geometry of the grass-court game. Instruction from coaches who understand the surface. Available to members and non-members alike.

Questions

Frequently Asked

Can I wear my regular tennis shoes?
It depends on the sole. Shoes designed for hard courts or indoor play with a smooth or lightly patterned sole are generally acceptable. Heavy herringbone clay-court soles, running shoes, and any shoe with pronounced tread are not. If you are uncertain, bring your shoes to the front desk before your session and staff will confirm. Compliant shoes are available for purchase at the Pro Shop.
What happens if it rains on my court time?
If QCTC staff determine the courts are unplayable, you will receive a notification through CourtReserve. A full credit is issued to your account. If you would like to move to an indoor hard court instead, contact the front desk at 309.762.2400 and staff will arrange availability. Grass court clinic participants automatically transfer indoors at half price — no action required on your part.
Do I need a membership to book a grass court?
No. Non-members may book grass courts with a $20 day pass per visit. Membership does unlock court priority booking windows, member pricing on clinics, and access to all indoor courts — a Day Pass is the entry point, membership is the upgrade. View membership options on the Membership page.
How far in advance can I book?
Booking windows are set per membership tier in CourtReserve. Members with Unlimited Individual or Family memberships have the longest advance booking window. Day Pass holders may book within a shorter window. Specific booking window durations are displayed in your CourtReserve account under membership details. During peak summer weeks, advance booking is strongly recommended.
I have never played on grass. Is there a clinic before I book court time?
Three Lawn Tennis clinics run through the summer specifically designed to introduce and develop the grass-court game. On the Lawn with Sean (Tuesdays) and Return, Chip, and Charge (Fridays) are both well-suited to first-time grass players. The Lawn Tennis Social on Thursdays is a coached doubles session that works at any level. All three are accessible to non-members. Clinic enrollment does not require a separate day pass.
Can I bring my own balls?
Yes. Players are welcome to bring their own balls. Grass surfaces wear felt more quickly than hard courts — a fresh can is recommended for the best playing experience. Balls are also available for purchase at the Pro Shop.
